Veteran of '08 convention named communications director for 2012 GOP convention in Tampa
GOP convention veteran James Davis has been named director of communications for next year’s Republican National Convention in Tampa.
Davis is 30 and no relation to former Tampa Congressman Jim Davis. He served as associate director of communications for the GOP’s convention in St. Paul in 2008, then went on to a job as deputy director of media affairs with the Republican National Committee. His most recent job has been with the Brunswick Group, an international corporate communications firm.
At the St. Paul convention, Davis essentially worked as the chief of staff for a communications team that by the week of the convention had grown to 225 staffers and volunteer professionals. He won’t start in Tampa until Oct. 10, but he expects the 2012 convention’s communications staff to work across all new-media technologies.
“Certainly, the media landscape has changed quite a bit since 2008,” he said Monday. “We’re going to have a strong push for more digital integration across the board this time around.”
