VP Joe Biden touts college affordability plan at FSU
Vice President Joe Biden was on his way to prom years ago when he saw his father pacing outside.
Had something happened to Mom? Was something wrong?
His father, it turned out, had just returned from the bank, where he was turned down for a loan to pay for Biden's college education. "I'm so ashamed," Biden recalled him saying.
The anecdote, delivered in a speech Monday to students at Florida State University, was used to promote President Barack Obama's college affordability plan — which aims to keep tuition prices from creeping up and provide more federal aid.
"Millions of Americans, mothers and fathers, are going to go to bed tonight staring at the ceiling, wondering whether they'll have to call their beautiful son or daughter and say, 'Honey, I'm not sure we're going to be able to get you back this semester'," Biden said.
