Webster Backing Gallagher
With an endorsement that could help Tom Gallagher in the vote-rich I-4 corridor, former House Speaker and state Sen. Daniel Webster, R-Winter Garden, announced Friday that he and his immediate family would vote for Tom Gallagher, “the best conservative voice in the race...the Ronald Reagan conservative in the race.”
Webster made his announcement at a Pregnancy Crisis Center in Orlando, where Gallagher campaign’s bus tour had stopped for a tour.
Webster acknowledged his decision took a while to come to and it came after “sorting out in my own mind that he’s a changed Tom Gallagher,” from the younger Gallagher who served with Webster in the House and was considered a moderate Republican.
“I’m thankful for that,” said Webster, a 26-year veteran of the Legislature.
Gallagher nodded in agreement, “I am too.”
Webster said no one had talked to him about joining Gallagher's ticket as a lieutenant governor candidate. And he said he wasn't inclined to consider it. "I like the Senate and I can be a help there," he said.
