What was the White House thinking?
When it comes to the decision to send the Air Force One back-up jet flying low over New York City Monday, Sen. Mel Martinez, R-Fla., wants to know. He's asked the Pentagon and Department of Homeland Security to explain why they approved it.
The "flyover is concerning and demonstrates a lack of judgment,” said Martinez, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee. “In addition to the cost to taxpayers, the lack of advance public notice on this exercise terrified thousands of New Yorkers. In this era of economic strife and the need for fiscal restraint, we need accountability in decision making.”
