What Would Barbara Say?
That's what Gov. Jeb Bush said he wondered first when he heard of his brother's unguarded remarks to Tony Blair at the G8 summit.
"I wondered what my mother thought,'' Bush told reporters Monday morning at his first public appearance since returning from a weeklong trip to the United Kingdom and Ireland. "Unvarnished talk is refreshing probably at the G8 summit,'' he added.
The former First Lady Barbara Bush, however, never did weigh in in 2000 when Florida's governor had a similarly embarrassing slip. Gov. Bush was caught on tape urging his aides to "Kick their (expletive) out," during a sit in in his office over his plan to eliminate affirmative action. Bush, insisted again Monday that his comments were for the media who had shown up, not for the two black lawmakers who were camped out on his office sofa in protest.
