When it rains it pours: State meteorologist resigns

15

October

Bennelson First, it was highway safety director Electra Bustle to resign for a job as a Tallahassee lobbyist. Earlier today, state Medicaid director Holly Benson resigned, a sign she plans to run for attorney general. Now comes the word that Ben Nelson, the boyish and affable state meteorologist, is resigning his post to take a job with the National Weather Service office in Key West.

"I think he has submitted his resignation," said Mike Stone, a spokesman for the Division of Emergency Management.

Nelson, a Florida State grad, was a fixture on Florida (and the nation's) TV screens during that string of severe storms in 2004 and 2005. He hasn't been seen nearly as much since, as Florida has been relatively storm-free since Gov. Charlie Crist took office in 2007.
