Where is Tom Gallagher when you need him?
Tom Gallagher, please pick up the nearest white courtesy phone. You are being summoned to restore conservative cred to Florida's U.S. Senate seat now held by Mel Martinez.
The Buzz heard this afternoon from Candy Gilman, 65, of Daytona Beach. She wanted help reaching the state's former CFO and frequent Republican candidate for governor. Gilman, past chairwoman of the Volusia County Republican committee and a member of Gallagher's 2006 campaign team, blasted Martinez's stand on immigration as too liberal. She and a group of friends want Gallagher to challenge him in 2010.
"Mel Martinez has let down the state of Florida tremendously," Gilman said in an interview. "Personally I think Jeb Bush could beat him hands down. But I don't think he would contemplate the idea. Tom Gallagher doesn't have those ties. And he has name recognition across the state. The group of Republicans I've talked to wholeheartedly agree that Tom Gallagher is our man."
So how 'bout it, Tom? His answer in comments.
