Who'da thunk?: Dan Gelber, fundraising king

The knock on Dan Gelber, first when he ran for U.S. Senate and then when he jumped to the attorney general's race was that the guy couldn't raise money. Sure, the press would lap up his quotes, the chatter went, but Gelber would fall short in critical campaign cash.

Wrong. Now it can be told that Gelber actually raised more money than any other attorney general candidate, both in hard money contributions and in-kind from the state party (soft money). Dave Aronberg was close behind, but the Buzz was that Aronberg was a money-raising dynamo.  Here's the tally:

Dan Gelber: $1.676 (5150 donors)
Dave Aronberg: $1.662 (4660 donors)
Jeff Kottkamp: $1.115 (2539 donors)
Pam Bondi: $999K (2190 donors)
Holly Benson:  $914K (2043 donors)
Separate from the above totals, here are the in-kinds:
Gelber: $273K
Aronberg:  $255K
Bondi: $217K
Kottkamp: $211K
Benson: $154K
