Why Jim Greer must be smiling after the Casey Anthony verdict
Because he's got the same attorney, Cheney Mason, who just helped the Orlando-area mother walk away with a misdemeanor after facing the death penalty in the alleged murder of her daughter.
Greer hired Mason to help fight charges that he stole $125,000 from the former Republican Party of Florida during his era as chairman. Greer's case is scheduled to resume later this month after being postponed as the Anthony trial dragged on.
It wasn't always looking so good for Greer. Mason was pilloried by Nancy Grace, who said Anthony's defense team was in "Bizarro world" and did "the opposite of what we think they should do."
Meanwhile, the reaction in Florida's political world to the Anthony verdict has been muted so far.
State Rep. Matt Gaetz, a Republican attorney from the Panhandle, tweeted before the verdict that he had been watching the trial and thought Anthony should get the death penalty
