Winner and loser of the week
Winner of the week: Marco Rubio. Say what you will about the Republican former state House Speaker, he’s fearless. The Miami Republican could have been a frontrunner for any number of other offices, but he put his conservative principles first and jumped into the U.S. Senate race, knowing he likely faces Florida’s most popular and powerful Republican, Charlie Crist.
Loser of the week: David Vitter. We hadn’t paid much attention to Louisiana’s family values conservative senator since he was exposed as fan of prostitutes. Now he’s back on our radar. Vitter is single-handedly blocking the appointment of former Florida Emergency Management Director Craig Fugate as head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Vitter apparently is unhappy about FEMA restrictions on new construction in high hazard flood zones, so while hurricane season approaches, America waits until Vitter is appeased.
