Winner and loser of the week in Fla politics
Neglected to post this yesterday:
Winners of the week: Amy Baker and Eric Pridgeon. Giving state bureaucrats and independent, objective analysis a good name, state economist Baker and House Health Care Appropriations Committee staff director Pridgeon didn't flinch in refusing to accept Gov. Rick Scott's dubious projections as the official state estimate for the cost of Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act. The Scott administration finally back-pedaled. Scott cut his 10-year cost estimate from $26 billion to about $3 billion.
Loser of the week: Napoleon Bonapart Broward. Civic leaders in Florida's second-largest county are talking seriously about changing the name to Fort Lauderdale County, suggesting it would be more appealing to tourists. Talk about a snub to the county's namesake, Florida's 19th governor and ancestor of Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater.
