Winner and loser of the week in Fla politics
Winner of the week: Marco Rubio. Last week’s loser this week was blessed with two new polls showing that Charlie Crist’s once vast, 40 point lead has dwindled to single digits. Crist’s inevitability argument is shot, and Rubio’s fundraising is sure to get a big boost. Crist badly needs to shift the narrative of this race, and fortunately for him he has millions of dollars in the bank to help him do that. It won't be pretty.
Loser of the week: Jim Greer. Talk about holiday stress. How long can he hang onto his state GOP Chairmanship - and Crist’s support - with so many party leaders bent on taking him out? How long can Crist withstand the pressure from GOP money guys telling him to cut Greer loose? Sure seems like an eternity ago that people were talking about Greer as the next RNC chairman or central Florida congressman. Runners up: Dean Cannon and (especially, for a statewide candidate) Senate President Jeff Atwater: Neither statewide Repulican leader would even return calls about their confidence in Jim Greer..
