Winner and loser of the week in Fla politics
Winner of the week: Kendrick Meek. So much for Charlie Crist sucking up all of the Democratic support, and Florida's Senate race being all about Crist vs. Rubio. Miami congressman Meek is still an underdog, but a new Mason-Dixon poll shows he’s gained 8 points among Democrats in the last month and 7 points among independents. While Crist today picks up a significant endorsement from former U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler of Palm Beach County, but Meek is the one who’ll be campaigning in Tampa Thursday with Al Gore.
Loser of the week: Marco Rubio. E-mails show then-House Speaker Rubio was “a hero” who helped the legislature sneak in $48 million for a lavish courthouse - the same year his budget chief snuck in $6 million for an airplane hangar for a top GOP donor. And now Rubio won’t say whether or not he charged kitchen flooring for his home on his state party credit card. This is the guy who’s going to clean up reckless spending in Washington?
