Winner and loser of the week in Fla politics

13

March

Winner of the week: Willie Meggs. With ex-college president Bob Richburg flipping on former House Speaker Ray Sansom and developer Jay Odom, the state attorney's case presumably became a whole lot stronger.

Loser of the week: Mark Wilson. The Florida Chamber of Commerce President is a very, very big deal. So someone of his immense stature clearly required the hiring off-duty cops to protect him and other Chamber staffers from the unwashed protesters who were expected to descend on Tallahassee for the opening the legislative session. How insolent, then that these capitalism-hating Floridians failed to grasp his influence and went nowhere near him. Runner up: NRA. We didn't think Marian Hammer ever lost legislative fights in Tallahassee, but state senators last week stripped out a provision to allow some people to bring guns on college campuses.
