Winner and loser of the week in Fla politics
Winner of the week: Florida Republicans. It's nice not to be constrained any more by a governor like Charlie Crist, who in 2008 extended early voting hours even though most early voters were Democrats. "The right thing to do," Crist called it. Now Republican House legislators are making it harder for Democrats to press their early vote advantage, cutting early voting days in half to one week and making it harder for grass-roots groups to register voters. It's called hardball politics.
Loser of the week: David Byrne. Sure, the Talking Heads frontman humiliated Charlie Crist, requiring him to apologize in a painful-to-watch YouTube video for using one of Byrne's songs without permission in an online campaign ad. But suing for $1 million over an online video watched by dozens and that nobody with two brain cells viewed as a Talking Heads endorsement of Crist? Talk about a psycho killer.
