Winner and loser of the week in Fla politics
Winner of the week: David Bitner. The Florida Republican Party chairman showed his stuff Friday in announcing he had been diagnosed with the incurable ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease. With confidence, courage, humor and faith, Bitner left no one suggesting he lacked what it takes to carry on and take on the Democrats in 2012.
Losers of the week: State Reps. Scott Randolph, D-Orlando, and Daphne Campbell, D-Miami, who had a juvenile public fight after she voted for an anti-abortion bill. Randolph lambasted her, tossed her papers and pen in the trash and vowed to find a challenger to make her a one-termer. Pro-choice to Randolph apparently doesn't allow any Democrat to choose to oppose abortion rights. "You have no right. God put me here," Campbell said. Easy there, Daphne, God didn't put you there; voters did. And if he did, your invoking him could prompt him to change his mind. Runners up: Nan Rich and Ron Saunders: Yeesh, Democratic leaders. There are only a few Democrats left in the legislature. Can't you at least keep your folks together and avoid embarrassing headlines?
