Winner and loser of the week in Fla politics
Winner of the week. Tie: Rick Perry and Adam Putnam. For Perry, it's not clear how well the Texas swagger plays over the long haul, but the Republican presidential candidate appears poised for a very serious Florida campaign. He's talking to top political operatives, landed uber-fundraiser A.K. Desai, and prominent endorsements (including House Speaker Dean Cannon) are expected soon. As for Putnam, he looked like the only statewide Florida officer-holderleader wanting to listen to all Floridians, not just his base. On Friday, Putnam sent his cabinet aide to talk to and hear out Floridians at the annual Florida Rights Restoration Coalition conference in Orlando. Even if he doesn't support automatic restitution of civil rights, his office - unlike Rick Scott, Pam Bondi, and Jeff Atwater - at least engages on an issue effecting nearly one million Floridians.
Loser of the week:Rick Scott's tie collection. Crafting a softer, kinder image (not helped by revelations of deleted transition e-mails), the governor has become an open-collar guy. Looks like his ties will rarely see the light of day again. The same may hold for some of the transition's electronic records.
