Winner and loser of the week in Fla politics

20

June

Snitker Winner of the week: Alex Snitker. Being suckers for political stunts, we have to give credit to Libertarian U.S. Senate candidate for causing some drama at a Florida Press Association/Florida Society of Newspaper Editors Association candidate forum in Sarasota last week. Only the major candidates were invited to speak, but that didn’t stop Snitker for crashing the event (video here) and grabbing the mic: “You keep saying that career politicians are the problem, and you’re only going to allow career politicians and a billionaire on stage. You want to talk about the tea party candidate? It’s not Marco Rubio – it’s Alexander Snitker.” And for one day at least, the mainstream media noticed him.

Loser of the week: Marco Rubio. In the same week that a Florida Chamber poll showed Charlie Rub Crist leading Rubio by 11 points in the senate race, we learn that a bank had started foreclosure procedings on Rubio’s Tallahassee home. We already knew Mr. fiscal conservative had reported nearly a million in debt in 2008 and improperly double-billed the GOP and taxpayers for travel expenses. This the fiscal discipline he’ll bring to Washington? Runner up: Former Polk County Commissioner Neil Combee, who failed to qualify as a state House candidate because he sent a check that proved to be one cent short of the required qualification fee. Ouch.
