Winner and loser of the week in Fla politics
Winner of the week: Mitt Romney. For the first time since January, the presumptive GOP nominee can point to polls showing him edging Barack Obama in must-win Florida, albeit within the margins of error. The bipartisan Purple Strategies poll found Romney leading 47 percent to 45 percent, and the Republican-leaning Rasmussen Reports had Romney with 46 percent support and Obama with 45 percent. Meanwhile, two outside GOP groups, Americans for Prosperity and the American Future Fund, have started a $2.1 million TV campaign blasting Obama on Florida airwaves.
Losers of the week: R. Fred Lewis, Barbara Pariente and Peggy Quince. Acting rather careless about following Florida's election laws, the Florida Supreme Court justices had to break away from a hearing when someone realized they were about to miss the deadline for filing their disclosure forms to qualify to be on the ballot for staying on the bench. Now they face potential investigations into whether they improperly used court personnel to finish up their paperwork.
