Working Both Sides of the Street

Charlie Crist began Day 2 of his three-day bus tour with a startling discovery. As he arrived at Fred Johnson's Farmers Market Restaurant in Plant City, he noticed about two dozen young Tom Gallagher supporters across the street, holding up Gallagher signs and chanting "We want Tom! We want Tom!"
Crist briefly left his own group of supporters and walked across the street and shook hands with some of Gallagher's people. "No enemies. Just opponents," Crist said. "Thanks for participating. See you Sept. 6th!"
Crist's travels Friday will take him across the I-4 corridor to Bartow, Orlando, Melbourne and Daytona Beach. He'll pick up an endorsement from U.S. Sen. Mel Martinez, who's repaying a debt from his 2004 Senate race when Crist issued an early endorsement of the Cuban-born Martinez.
