Young: Trade Gitmo for the Rock.
Um, no, says House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., whose San Francisco district inclues Alcatraz.
With Republicans in Congress complaining that President Obama hasn't thought through where to put suspected terrorists if he closes the prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, U.S. Rep. C.W. Bill Young, R-Indian Shores, told a reporter from sister pub CQ that maybe Obama should send them to Alcatraz.
On George Stephanopoulos' show Sunday on ABC TV, Pelosi nixed the idea.
"Perhaps he's not visited Alcatraz," Pelosi told him. "And let me say, Bill Young is a great member of Congress, and I have a great deal of respect for his opinion. Alcatraz is a tourist attraction. It's a prison that is now sort of like a -- it's a national park."
Stephanopoulos: "So not a serious proposal?"
Pelosi: "It is -- no."
