Democrat Sean Shaw takes another shot running for Legislature

Less than a week after State Rep. Ed Narain, D-Tampa, announced he is running for the state senate, the first candidate has emerged to replace him in the Florida House of Representatives.

Sean Shaw, a community activist and attorney, filed on Monday for House District 61. It will be the second try for Shaw, a Democrat, for the seat. In 2014 he lost to Narain by less than 800 votes in a four-candidate Democratic Primary.

The District 61 seat covers Tampa Heights, Seminole Heights and Temple Crest.

"Ed Narain has been a fantastic Representative for our district," Shaw said in announcing his campaign. "I had no plans to run this year until he announced he would campaign to continue his service in the Senate."

Shaw is the state's former Insurance Consumer Advocate which he said gave him experience fighting property tax insurance increases and looking out for consumers.

Shaw is the son of the late Florida Supreme Court Justice Leander Shaw.
