Democratic mayor dings top Florida pro-Trump officials, but is he aiming at one in particular?
Hillary Clinton supporter Bob Buckhorn took to Twitter Monday to zing three top Florida supporters of GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump over his criticism of Khizr and Ghazala Khan, who spoke of their son’s death in combat at last week’s Democratic National Convention.
Buckhorn’s tweet: “Silence from Donald Trump supporters @RickScott, @adamputnam, @PamBondi after his attack on Gold Star family. Still proud of your man?”
It’s an interesting dig because the Tampa mayor has been on cordial terms — considering that he’s a Democrat and they’re all Republicans — with two of the officials and could be seeing a lot of the third in the future.
Buckhorn has had a good working relationship with Gov. Rick Scott, whom he has worked with closely on economic development initiatives, and Attorney General Pam Bondi, a former Hillsborough prosecutor and a longtime friend from Tampa whose campaign listed Buckhorn as a host for a controversial fundraiser in 2013.
That leaves the third, Agricultural Commissioner Adam Putnam, who, like Buckhorn, is expected to be a candidate for governor in 2018, and who, unlike Buckhorn, has a personal political committee that’s raised a ton of money (nearly $5.4 million, at last count, to less than $140,000 by Buckhorn’s PAC). So maybe it’s a tweet about the election this fall. And maybe it’s about 2018, too.
One post-script: The governor's Twitter feed is @FLGovScott. The @RickScott twitter is somebody with just a handful of tweets about home sales.
