Florida Senate leaders reeling in money

Tens of thousands of dollars continued pouring in during late July to political committees linked to leaders of the Florida Senate, newly filed finance reports show. The Florida Leadership Committee, which is affiliated with incoming Senate Appropriations Chairman Jack Latvala, R-Clearwater, raised $97,693 from July 23 to July 29 and had about $2.33 million in cash on hand. The committee's largest contributor during the reporting period was the health insurer Florida Blue, which pitched in $25,000, according to information posted on the state Division of Elections website. Meanwhile, the committee Jobs for Florida, which is linked to potential future Senate President Wilton Simpson, R-Trilby, raised $62,500 during the period and had slightly more than $1 million on hand. Its contributions included $20,000 from Duke Energy. Also, the committee Innovate Florida, which is headed by Senate Majority Leader Bill Galvano, R-Bradenton, raised $53,750 from July 23 to July 29 and had about $980,000 on hand, the reports show. Contributions to Innovate Florida included $25,000 from the tobacco firm RAI Services Co.
