From Dempsey Barron to Rick Scott, 30 years inside the Capitol
The year 2017 marks the 20th anniversary of Republican control of the executive and legislative branches in Tallahassee.
The GOP took over the Senate under President Jim Scott in 1994, the House under Speaker Daniel Webster in 1996 and Jeb Bush moved into the governor's mansion after the 1998 election. Term limits are for Tallahassee politicians, but not for the reporters who make the beat their life's work.
Here's a look back at 30 years of Tallahassee beat coverage, from Bob Martinez to Rick Scott, from Senate President John Vogt to Joe Negron, and from Speaker Jon Mills to Richard Corcoran, the first House speaker to use Twitter on a consistent basis.
Along the way, the list of colorful, controversial and effective leaders is seemingly endless. Here are just a few: Mike Abrams, JD Alexander, Nancy Argenziano, Allan Bense, Jennifer Carroll, Mike Fasano, Katherine Harris, Kaye Henderson, Toni Jennings, Jim Krog, Jack Latvala, Carrie Meek, John Phelps, Guy Spearman, Peter Rudy Wallace.
