Get ready to cruise down 'Speaker Will Weatherford Highway'
As one of the youngest House speakers in Florida history, Will Weatherford was not a "my way or the highway" kind of guy. But at the ripe old age of 36, he'll soon have a highway named after him.
Senators on Tuesday amended a road-naming bill to designate part of the planned State Road 56 extension in Pasco County as "Speaker Will Weatherford Highway," for the Republican lawmaker who was speaker from 2012 to 2014.
The amendment sponsor was Sen. John Legg, R-Trinity. The amended bill passed 34-1, with only Sen. Nancy Detert, R-Venice, voting no. The bill (SB 114) will rename an as-yet unbuilt section of the SR 56 extension between Meadow Pointe Boulevard to U.S. 301. Background on the road project is here.
