Gov. Scott signs bill on Tupelo honey and Styrofoam regulation
From The News Service of Florida:
Gov. Rick Scott on Wednesday signed a wide-ranging agriculture-related bill that designates Tupelo honey as the "official Florida state honey" and prevents local governments from regulating polystyrene, more commonly known as Styrofoam.
Lawmakers combined numerous issues in the 52-page bill, with some of the heaviest debate on the polystyrene issue.
The bill (HB 7007) will "preempt" to the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services regulation of Styrofoam products used by grocery stores and other food-related businesses. As a result, cities and counties would not have the regulatory power, though the bill includes an exemption for local ordinances put in place before Jan. 1.
