Gun control group running Florida TV ad against Rubio
A group backed by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg is hitting Florida Sen. Marco Rubio over his objection to taking up any gun control legislation. The ad from Mayors Against Illegal Guns is set to run over three days in Orlando and Tampa, though a person familiar with the ad buy put it at a modest $50,000.
The animated spot accuses Rubio of opposing gun control measures to protect his presidential ambitions. Rubio, in turn, fired off a fundraising letter through his Reclaim America PAC.
"We knew the liberals hated Marco's message of economic empowerment and limited government, but now they've really stepped up their attacks. This morning, big government liberals have begun airing TV ads in Florida attacking Marco," read a message from Terry Sullivan, who oversees the PAC. "Marco is not intimidated. He won't back down from the cause of defending the Second Amendment. That’s why I stand with Marco. Will you join me in supporting Marco by donating $25 today?"
