John Romano: Time to pay attention to Donald Trump supporters
Times columnist John Romano with a terrific column this morning after Tuesday's Florida primary. An excerpt:
Donald Trump arrived in Florida on a roll, and he left with a pocketful of delegates. Meanwhile, a popular former governor didn't even make it to the starting line, and a once-promising senator got poll-slapped.
And so what have we learned in the aftermath of Trump-mania?
Ignoring him didn't work.
Attacking him didn't work.
So why not try listening to him?
Because something he is saying is resonating with a lot of people. And, at this point, it's too simplistic to dismiss his supporters as nothing but a small, angry mob.
Not after his victories in at least 19 of the first 30 primaries. And not after his performance in Florida on Tuesday.
