Marco Rubio ended his presidential campaign Tuesday night following a brutal and humiliating loss to Donald Trump in the Florida primary.

“There is nothing more you could have done,” Rubio told supporters at Florida International University, citing a “political tsunami.”

“While we are on the right side, this year, we will not be on the winning side,” Rubio said.

The Florida senator needed to win the state but the results confirmed what polling had shown for a while, with Trump dominating. Rubio acknowledged the mathematical impossibility of carrying on with so few delegates gained from his meager wins in Minnesota, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia.

Trump collected all of Florida’s 99 delegates, expanding his national lead. There were also nominating contests in Ohio, Illinois, Missouri and North Carolina.
