St. Petersburg's Mel Sembler will help raise money for Donald Trump, the RNC announced today.

Sembler was named a vice chairman of the Trump Victory Committee, a joint effort between the party and Trump's campaign. It may take some Republicans by surprise as Sembler backed Jeb Bush then said he wished Marco Rubio would get the nomination.

Sembler had expressed concern about Trump and said he would devote his time to defeating Florida's medical marijuana initiative.

We've called Sembler and are told he's not in the office today.

Other Floridians on the committee are Diana and Llwyd Ecclestone of Palm Beach County.

From a release:

The Trump Victory Committee has already begun raising support across the country and is currently running an active Chair recruitment effort in all 50 states. Wednesday, May 25th, will mark the first Trump Victory Committee fundraising dinner in Los Angeles.

Said Trump: “It is my great honor to help raise money for the Republican Party to ensure Hillary Clinton is defeated in November and Republican candidates maintain the majority in the House and Senate. This is an impressive leadership team comprised of talented individuals working together to unite the party and win what will be the most important election of our lifetime. The money raised is an investment in the Republican Party and the future of our country, which, as President, I am going to make better and stronger than ever before.”
