Miami-Dade immigrant student among guests for State of the Union on Tuesday
From our friends at the Associated Press:
A 22-year-old Miami-Dade College student who has lived most of her life in the country illegally is expected to be among those attending President Barack Obama's State of the Union.
Mayra Rubio Limon was invited by South Florida Democratic U.S. Rep. Joe Garcia to hear Tuesday's address. The Mexican native is one of a handful of so-called Dreamers from around the country set to be in the audience when the president speaks.
Obama will likely name immigration reform as a top priority during the remainder of his term. Rubio says she hopes Congress will create a path to citizenship for youth like herself but that her farmworker parents simply want to be able to work legally without fearing deportation and to return to their native Mexico to visit relatives.
