Mike Fasano decries mailer from group backing Bill Gunter

October

We haven't seen the mailer in question, but Republican former state Rep. Mike Fasano is steamed about a mailer from a group called Citizens for Fairness that he says bashes Amanda Murphy, the Democrat running against Republican Bill Gunter for Fasano's Pasco County seat.

From Fasano:

It has come to my attention that Citizens for Fairness, a political action group supporting Bill Gunter, has used my name in a recent mailing in an effort to sway the outcome of the special election to fill the remainder of my House District 36 term.  Following the September primary I specifically asked both candidates to NOT use my name in any campaign-related material.  I am deeply disappointed, that one of a groups associated with Bill Gunter, did not respect my request.

I demand that they immediately stop using my name to attack a fellow Pasco County resident, Amanda Murphy, with misinformation and untruths.  Additionally, I expect Citizens for Fairness to issue a retraction for any comments made using my name.  I will not be affiliated with any campaign that uses my name in an effort to obtain votes through distortions and misleading statements.

To any voter who may have received or read this flyer I want you to know that it was sent to you by an organization that is not local but is based on the other side of the state.  It is funded by special interest dollars from Tallahassee. This group does not have the interests of Pasco County at heart.  This organization merely wants to win an election. The allegations it puts in the flyer using my name are untrue and should be discounted by anyone who receives it.

And a spokesman for Gunter responds: "For this entire campaign, Bill has been focused on his positive vision for getting Pasco back to work and protecting our seniors. Outside groups, whether attacking Bill or ignoring Mike Fasano's wishes, are not part of a solution for the challenges the people of Pasco are facing."
