MSNBC hosts to Gov. Rick Scott: 'Can you answer the question or should we scoot?'
Floridians, by now, are used to Florida Gov. Rick Scott's non-answer answers to reporters' questions, but MSNBC hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski weren't having any of it before their nationwide audience this morning.
Scott's appearance on "Morning Joe" ended awkwardly after the governor -- four times -- refused to answer a straightforward question: Whether he, like his "friend" Donald Trump, thinks "Muslims, Islam hates America... Do you think that Muslims in the state of Florida hate America?"
Scott's initial response was evasive and only grew more-so during the 2-minute exchange that followed.
"As you know, in Florida, we're the best melting pot in the world. We love everybody coming to our state," Scott said. He added that after the Paris terrorist attacks, he asked the federal government to not allow more Syrian refugees to come to Florida until they're vetted, and he's not convinced they have been.
Scarborough and Brzezinski's response: That's nice, but you didn't answer the question.
Scarborough again asked for Scott's opinion and whether he agreed with Trump. But Scott tried to go to scripted talking points about Florida -- as he's prone to do -- that didn't address the question at hand and offered no depth or insight into Scott's actual opinion on whether he thinks Muslims hate America.
Scarborough and Brzezinski quickly cut him off, and Scarborough broached the question again: "Do you personally think that Islam is a religion that hates America?"
For the third time, Scott dodged, sounding like a broken record, and Brzezinski could be heard off-screen saying: "Wrap it."
She gave a final go at asking him, even addressing him by his first name. "Can you answer the question, or should we scoot?"
