Nan Rich inspired by Eric Cantor's upset defeat in Virginia
A Tea Party candidate's surprising victory in Virginia gives hope to a liberal Democrat a thousand miles away in Florida.
Nan Rich, the former state senator from Broward County who's waging a David-vs.-Goliath battle against Charlie Crist for the Democratic nomination for governor, says she and her supporters are inspired by the shocking upset defeat of U.S. Rep. Eric Cantor in a Republican primary in Virginia.
"It gives people hope," Rich said Wednesday, "because it means that the voters still matter."
Many have discounted Rich's chances because of her difficulty in raising the millions of dollars it takes to build statewide name recognition against Crist, who has near-universal name recognition. But Rich says she's in it to stay and she plans to personally file her candidacy qualifying papers next Tuesday at the Division of Elections in Tallahassee.
