Nelson: Wait until Zika strikes Mitch McConnell's Kentucky
Sen. Bill Nelson took a shot at Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Tuesday over inaction on Zika.
"Wait until a mosquito bites one of the people who is traveling to Kentucky and then he gets a transmitted case in Kentucky, then we'll get action," Nelson told a reporter while attending the state dinner honoring Prime Minister of Singapore Lee Hsien Loong.
Sen. Marco Rubio said in Daytona Beach today that he'd called McConnell to urge action but Rubio said the Obama administration has $350 million it can use right away. Rubio said he'd be willing to contact House leaders over a spending bill but demurred when asked if he'd request policy riders Democrats object to be dropped.
"I don't care which side gives in; someone needs to give in quickly because we need to move forward on the funding. But we should spend the $350 million."
Sidenote: Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn and his wife also attended the White House dinner.
