New Rubio ad spotlights attack on Obamacare
The Marco Rubio super PAC has a new ad highlighting his role in "a plan that will all but kill ObamaCare."
The ad, which begins today in Iowa and New Hampshire, has to do with a "risk corridor"measure that stymies the government from helping insurers under the Affordable Care Act.
"On ObamaCare, some Republicans gave up," a narrator says. "Some talked tough, but got nowhere. "Marco Rubio conceived and pushed a plan that will all but kill ObamaCare."
That claim is overstated, experts say, and some Republicans have said Rubio is taking credit for an idea that was not his alone. But the Florida Republican has gotten attention from the news media and it gives him a strong talking point to contrast against others, including Ted Cruz who led the effort that shutdown the government in 2013. Washington Republicans bemoaned Cruz -- though Rubio joined the Texan on the Senate floor -- but it earned him credibility among the grassroots.
The provision was included in the massive spending bill that passed the House and Senate last week. Rubio missed the vote, though said he opposed the overall package.
