Obama's campaign looks to pressure Bilirakis on immigration
President Obama's campaign arm, Organizing for Action, is trying to put pressure on Rep. Gus Bilirakis and other Republicans to support immigration reform.
The group said it will rally outside Bilirakis' Tarpon Springs office at 4:30 p.m. today. "The Senate vote was a great step forward; now it's time to take the fight to the House to make sure they act to pass comprehensive immigration reform that will strengthen the economy and ensure the American Dream for this generation and generations to come," read a release.
Bilirakis, like many Republicans, says he opposes anything that amounts to "amnesty" for illegal immigrants. In a May interview with the Tampa Bay Times he said, "I'm definitely not for a path to citizenship. It's breaking the law and we're rewarding it." But he said he was open to some reforms.
