Patrick Murphy bids farewell to Washington, hints of political future
Florida Rep. Patrick Murphy gave a farewell speech last night, vowing, "My commitment to our community, to the great state of Florida, and to our nation will always continue."
The two-term Democrat was handily defeated by Sen. Marco Rubio in November and it's not clear what his political future may be.
"I’m certainly not going to rule anything out,” he told the Palm Beach Post, which asked if he'd be interested in running for governor in 2018. “I want to keep all options on the table and I want to just see how I’m feeling, see how the political environment is, see the issues people are talking about.”
While the Senate race did not draw much competition among Democrats, the governor's race already has and Murphy would likely not enjoy the same level of party support.
