PunditFact checks George Will's CD 13 column and finds not much truth

George Will wrote a column for the Washington Post about Pinellas' Congressional District 13 special election, saying "because it is this year’s first federal election, attention must be paid to the March 11 voting to fill a Florida congressional seat vacated by the death in October of Republican C.W. Bill Young, who served in Congress for 43 years."

Read the whole column. PunditFact did and found several claims that didn't look right. Here's two claims that Katie Sanders fact-checked:

  • "Any Floridian who has ever requested an absentee ballot henceforth gets one automatically." PunditFact rated this False. A Florida voter who requests an absentee ballot would get one automatically through the end of the calendar year of the second general election -- not "henceforth."
  • Says President Barack Obama carried Congressional District 13 "by 8.2 points in 2008 and 5.6 points in 2012." Again, PunditFact rated this False. Will confused Pinellas County numbers with Congressional District 13 numbers. We locals know CD 13 is totally in Pinellas, but it doesn't cover the entire county. Will missed this fact and got his numbers wrong.
