Rubio joins effort to force relocation of U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem
Sen. Marco Rubio today joined two other Republicans in an attempt to force the relocation of the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.
The legislation would withhold some funding from the State Department until the move from Tel Aviv is complete. The other sponsors are Sens. Dean Heller of Nevada and Ted Cruz of Texas.
President-elect Donald Trump has already called for the relocation, which was supposed to happen years ago. Congress in 1995 passed a bill recognizing Jerusalem as the capital.
“Jerusalem is the eternal capital of the Jewish state of Israel, and that's where America's embassy belongs,” said Rubio. “It's time for Congress and the president-elect to eliminate the loophole that has allowed presidents in both parties to ignore U.S. law and delay our embassy's rightful relocation to Jerusalem for over two decades.”
