Rubio reports raising $9.6 million for third quarter
Sen. Marco Rubio raised about $9.6 million for the third quarter, his campaign said, a monster haul that is nearly three times what Democrat Patrick Murphy reported.
"The donations include nearly $9 million raised for his re-election campaign and about $600,000 raised for the Rubio Victory Committee," the campaign said.
Murphy on Monday reported $3.3 million, a respectable sum, if only for Rubio's.
Neither campaign has said how much cash on hand it has.
Some historical perspective:
In 2009, Charlie Crist bragged of biggest ever Florida Senate quarterly haul: $4.37 million, blowing past the record set by Bill Nelson in 2006, $2.8 million. Crist pulled that off in a condensed period, about a month and a half.
Crist's number was designed to scare off competitors, including Rubio.
