Rubio: 'This investigation is full of leaks'
WASHINGTON - Sen. Marco Rubio this morning questioned why it hadn't been leaked out that President Donald Trump himself was not under investigation.
"This investigation is full of leaks, left and right," Rubio said to former FBI Director James Comey during the Senate Intelligence Committee hearing.
"We've learned more from the newspapers sometimes than we do from our open hearings, for sure. Do you ever wonder why of all the things in this investigation, the only thing that has never been leaked is the fact that the president was not personally under investigation, despite the fact that both Democrats and Republicans in the leadership of Congress knew that and have known that for weeks?"
Comey replied, "I don't know," but added that he found material given to top lawmakers "pretty tightly held."
An NBC News reporter quickly added on Twitter: "Not true Marco Rubio. We've reported on numerous occasions that the President himself was not personally under investigation."
Comey reiterated during the exchange with Rubio that he did not publicly say Trump wasn't under investigation because if that changed, it would prompt a "duty to correct."
The RNC highlighted part of Rubio's questioning in which he wondered why Comey did not tell Trump he was acting inappropriately.
