Rubio wants to speak with Sessions about meetings with Russians
Sen. Marco Rubio wants to speak with Attorney General Jeff Sessions about his meetings with Russians and why Sessions did not disclose those in his confirmation hearing. But Rubio, appearing on NPR Thursday, said it is too early to say if a special prosecutor is needed.
"This is certainly a relevant story," Rubio said of the news that broke last night.
A member of the Intelligence Committee that is investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election, Rubio said if there are facts the Justice Department needs to look into, "it could potentially call into question whether or not the attorney general can do the job or whether an independent counsel would be necessary. We're not at that stage yet."
Other Republicans today called for Sessions to recuse himself, including House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (who later said his remarks were misconstrued) and Rep. Jason Chaffetz, chairman of the oversight committee. Sen. Rob Portman also said Sessions should step away.
