Rubio's 2010 campaign manager enters craft beer biz
Jose Mallea, who managed Marco Rubio's blockbuster 2010 U.S. Senate campaign, has a new title: Beer maker.
Mallea is a co-owner of Biscayne Bay Brewing Co. in Miami and, according to this photo from Instagram, the first brew has was born yesterday.
Mallea worked on Newt Gingrich's 2012 presidential bid and is an official with the Libre Initiative.
"I actually developed a passion for craft beer when I lived in DC from 2001-05," he tells the Buzz. "When I moved back to Miami, I always wanted to do my part in bringing craft beer down here. Miami is still a very young craft beer market with only two breweries open and room for many more. In comparison to other big cities, including Tampa, that have a much more mature craft beer scene."
He started on the venture in 2012.
"As far as politics, I think I'll always be involved and help those candidates I feel strongly about, but the brewery will definitely be my primary focus. Plus I think I can do my part using my experience to affect public policy that encourages the growth of the craft beer industry in the state."
