Second Super PAC emerges — and attacks Curt Clawson — in race for Radel seat

A new Super PAC has emerged in the race for Trey Radel’s old seat, and it’s already running a TV ad attacking candidate Curt Clawson.

Records show Liberty and Leadership Fund was formed last month and it reported Friday spending $60,000 to attack Clawson.

Reports show the PAC paid Pat Bainter’s firm Data Targeting for website work. It also used Adam Goodman’s Victory Group for the TV ad and paid the TV-buying firm Mentzer Media Services. The committee has a registered address of 115 East Park Ave in Tallahassee, an address that is home to Tidewater Consulting, a lobbying and consulting firm, and its treasurer is listed as William S. Jones. Jones did not return a phone call.

The ad begins with headlines of Radel’s cocaine induced fall and a female narrator states, “Now Curt Clawson is playing games to hide what he’s done.”

This is the second Super PAC in the race. One called “Values are Vital" cropped up to support Paige Kreegel, the former state legislator and a candidate in the race, which features a number of other Republicans including state Sen. Lizbeth Benacquisto.

The Talahassee address is the same that was used for a political committee Benacquisto controlled with Joe Negron.

Clawson issued a response yesterday saying, “In basketball, the other team starts fouling when they get behind. In business, the competition re-markets their product when they see declines. In politics, the career politicians and their special interest friends launch negative attack ads when they are desperate.”

He also responded with an ad of his own. More below. Clawson statement cont.:

Today the politicians admitted they are in trouble.  They know that voters want an outsider who won’t play their games.  They know that we don’t want another Tallahassee insider representing us in congress.

So they brought in their special interest friends to launch a negative TV ad with an attack on my record as CEO.

Yes we made some tough decisions in the economic collapse of 2008-09.  But we did it to save hundreds of good paying American jobs.

I am proud to say that some of those workers whose jobs we saved aren’t going to sit back and allow the career politicians to attack us.  Some of those workers appeared in an ad today that they call “Saved My Job” in response to the negative attacks on our company.

Please take a moment today to watch this important ad and forward it to anyone you know who asks about my record in making the tough decisions to turnaround a company and save jobs.

I am proud of the jobs we saved and I hope you are too.
