State warns of potential Zika scam products

With fears of Zika on the rise, Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi is warning consumers to be wary of people selling products that claiming to protect against the disease.

“All Floridians should be diligent and do their part to stop the spread of the Zika virus in Florida and one way to ensure the virus is contained is to use proven mosquito-repellent products and avoid any products that falsely claim they can prevent insect bites,” said Attorney General Bondi. “Using an unproven repellent can give the user a false sense of security and increase the likelihood of a mosquito bite.”

Bondi's office said they have not received any consumer complaints related to Zika yet, but said people should call them (1-866-9-NO-SCAM) if they suspect a product is being falsely marketed as a mosquito repellent or as Zika protection.
