Students want Donald Trump Fla chair axed as FSU trustee

Well, it's looks like Martin County Republican State Committeeman Eric Miller is not the only one unhappy about Florida GOP Vice Chairman Joe Gruters serving as Donald Trump's Florida co-chairman. The Famuan reports that a group called  Students for a Democratic Society at Florida State University held a "Dump Trump" rally this weekend featuring a Donald Trump pinata and called for Gruters to step down as a trustee at Florida State:

...Students created a petition demanding Joe Gruters’ immediate resignation. He is a member of FSU’s Board of Trustees as finance chair and according to the flyer, “the main promoter of Trump’s racism in Florida....

Gruters, a Sarasota accountant and chairman of the Sarasota accountant was an early supporter of Rick Scott for governor in 2010, and Scott appointed him to the FSU board in 2011. He term actually expired in January, but when we asked the governor's office whether Scott had any concerns about Gruters whether he intended to appoint him for another term, a spokeswoman sounded like Gruters' Trump campaign role was a non-issue.

“Gov. Scott asks his higher education appointees to keep tuition low and make sure degrees are aligned with jobs when students graduate.  Joe Gruters has done that,” said spokeswoman Jackie Schutz.

Gruters also brushed off the criticism and suggestions that he should resign from any positions while serving as co-chairman of the Trump campaign along with Susie Wiles. Wiles managed Gov. Scott's first campaign, and Scott has come just short of endorsing Trump.

"What's going to happen when Trump's their president?" he asked of the students, while noting that college campuses should encourage as many different viewpoints as possible. "I'm not stepping down from my position on the board of Florida State."
