Super PAC supporting Beruff raises less than $200K
A super PAC supporting Carlos Beruff's U.S. Senate campaign isn't looking too super.
Lets Clean Up Washington has raised just $180,200 since it was created back on March 1. New campaign finance reports released Friday shows the political action committee essentially received donations from 6 sources, mostly fellow developers in his home area of Manatee and Sarasota counties. The PAC reported spending no money but listed debts to a fundraising consultant and an accounting firm for a total of $12,115.
The biggest donor was Lakewood Ranch developer Pat Neal, who has known Beruff since the early 1980s. Neal gave the PAC $100,000. The next biggest donor was the Benderson Development Company, which is a major cormmercial land developer also near Lakewood Ranch along the Sarasota and Manatee counties border.
Beruff is the only major Republican challenger to U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio after Rubio announced last month that he had changed his mind and is running for re-election. The other four top contenders in the race dropped out, but Beruff has vowed to fight on.
