Tampa, Hillsborough firefighters unions endorse Dana Young in state Senate District 18
State Rep. Dana Young, R-Tampa, on Monday touted endorsements from the Tampa and Hillsborough chapters of the International Association of Fire Fighters in her campaign for state Senate District 18.
"A proven leader" who would "make our communities safer" and who "has held several leadership positions after demonstrating her ability of bringing people together in a collegial fashion," according to a joint statement from Hillsborough County Firefighters Local 2294 president Derrik Ryan and vice president Ken Forward.
“First responders, like our firefighters, put their lives on the line every day to ensure the safety of our community,” Young, the House Majority Leader since 2014, said in a statement accompanying the announcement. "If elected, I pledge to continue to represent their best interests and fight for their protection, just as they have done for us.”
In District 18, which covers the city of Tampa and the western 40 percent of unincorporated Hillsborough County, Young faces Democrat Bob Buesing, a longtime Tampa lawyer and activist on children's issues, and two candidates with no party affiliation, nude dance club owner and real estate investor Joe Redner and Sheldon Upthegrove.
